Plasma Television

Plasma television sets are yet to become the norm in most households. It seems as though a plasma television will remain a luxury item found only in wealthy households for another few years. Unlike regular TVs, a plasma television comes in far fewer possible sizes. Most plasma television sets are 40 inches or bigger. The combination of size and high quality has pushed the prices of a plasma television to about $4000 for smaller size or upwards of $20,000 for a large one. It is due to these extremely high prices that plasma television sets remain so rare.

Like most other new consumer electronic advances, it is only a matter of time until you can find a plasma television in almost every household. Whenever a new product is released, the price is too high for it to be in the mainstream. A few years later, most manufacturers have developed more efficient processes and can now offer the product at a much lower price. This can easily be seen in a number of products – VCRs, DVD players, digital cameras, etc. There remains some debate on if a plasma television is really that much better than a standard television. One cannot argue that the new technology is more advanced and produces a sharper image. However, the difference between a plasma television and your old set is only noticeable if you are watching for it. For this reason, it seems like a waste of money to buy a plasma television until the price comes down a lot.
